A native of the Midwest, Jennifer graduated from the University of Michigan and Wayne State University School of Law. Drawn to Colorado by her love of sunshine and the outdoors, Jennifer has called Colorado home for over 20 years. Her broad legal experience is unique among family law attorneys as she began her career working for national and international firms, practicing in corporate transactions and commercial litigation. Jennifer found her true calling in family law and now exclusively devotes her energy to helping her clients achieve favorable outcomes involving the issues that matter most. A former competitive endurance athlete with dozens of marathon and Ironman triathlon finishes, Jennifer now relaxes by cycling, skiing in the Colorado mountains, and spending time with friends and family.
Joe Maher
Special Counsel
Joe is an experienced family law attorney who focuses on all areas of family law, particularly divorce (pre-decree and post-decree issues), parenting-related litigation, and other domestic relations issues. Before joining Schaffner Law, Joe completed a judicial clerkship at the trial level and worked for over thirteen years in private practice. His practice has always focused on complex family matters that were often high conflict and had complex financial issues, previously representing children's best interests. Before attending law school, Joe worked with at-risk teenage youth in Chicago to develop their civic knowledge and awareness as an AmeriCorps volunteer with City Year Chicago. Joe is active in the community, serving as the Co-Chair of City Year Denver's Associate Board, sitting on the Board of Trustees for the 1st JD Bar Association, and regularly volunteering. In his free time, Joe enjoys traveling, skiing in the Rocky Mountains, and spending time with his wife and children, along with the family's golden retriever. Joe is licensed in both Colorado and Maryland.

Collaborative divorce is a process in which both spouses agree to resolve their case outside of litigation. Beyond a single mediation session, participants may work with a financial neutral, a divorce facilitator, and a parenting specialist. Jennifer Schaffner has specialized Collaborative Law training.
